Towels should be washed after every three uses. Whether it is bath, hand or face towels, the right way of washing them is necessary to keep them fluffy and absorbent. Our tips below will show you how to properly wash your towels and how to make them soft again.

Tips for appropriate wash of towels:

Step 1: Consult the manufacturer’s instructions

New towels should be washed before you use them to remove any chemicals and reduce lint. Before washing, remember to check the care label. Some towels may have decorative or other fabrics that are different from the normal cotton towel, which may affect the washing and drying cycle you are using.

Step 2: Separate the towels by color

To keep the white color on your towels and prevent them from fading, wash them separately. Colored or dark towels should be washed on their own to prevent fading. It is also a good idea to wash towels on their own without clothes to avoid any possible transfer of bacteria.

Step 3: Load towels in the washer

Load the towels in the washer in such a way that they can move around the tub, for effective cleaning. Some larger capacity washers can handle several towels at a time, but be careful not to overload.

Step 4: Add detergent

Add detergent as you normally would for a wash. Residue from too much detergent can build up over time and be harder to wash out. If you use bleach to brighten or disinfect white towels, add about a half cap.

Step 5: Select a wash cycle

Towels should be washed in the warmest water suitable for the fabric, according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Generally, warm or hot water is recommended for washing towels.

Step 6: Dry the towels in the dryer

Once the wash is complete, immediately transfer the towels to the dryer. To help towels dry faster, give them a good shake before placing them in the tub.

Towels should be dried at a suitable temperature for the fabric according to the manufacturer’s instructions. In general, low to medium heat is recommended. High temperatures can damage fabrics, so be sure to remove towels as soon as they are dry.

Step 7: Fold the towels

Wait for the towels to dry completely before removing them from the dryer, as any remaining moisture can cause musty smells. Fold the towels and store them in a cool spot to keep them fresh and fluffy.
